Under Tranche 3, ADB lent to the Government of Georgia (the Borrower) from ADB's ordinary capital resources an amount of seventy three million dollars ($73 million). Tranche 3 is scheduled for completion by 30 June 2018, with loan closing on 31 December 2018. The Project is expected to improve the transport system and infrastructure in urban areas and comprises two subprojects: (i) section 2 (km 4.0-10.8) of the international standard Tbilisi-Rustavi Urban Road Link; and (ii) phase 2 of Anaklia Coastal Improvement; both of which are in line with components of the Investment Program. The Municipal Development Fund of Georgia (MDF) is the project executing, implementing and disbursing agency. The objective of the Project is to develop an efficient, affordable, and environmentally sustainable transportation system that forms a part of the south-east route of the country. The project will focus on the improvement of the existing transport services linking Rustavi to Tbilisi. The Project targeted measures and specific facilities such as provision of interchanges, underpass, bridge road widening, bus stops, retaining wall, footbridge included to ensure a quick, safe and reliable bus services and guarantee proper physical connection with Tbilisi and Rustavi at the entrance of the city. The Program was developed as the Government’s response to the transportation problems in urban areas, which include large traffic volumes between Tbilisi and Rustavi route causing increasing delays.
