The loan of $450,000,000 will be provided from ADB’s ordinary capital resources without government guarantee to Coastal Gujarat Power Limited (CGPL), of which $200,000,000 is syndicated to Export-Import Bank of Korea (KEXIM) through a risk participation agreement.

The Project is one of the ultra mega power projects (UMPPs) planned by the Government of India which envisaged "Power for All" by 2012. The power generated by the Project will be supplied to the states of Gujarat, Maharashtra, Punjab, Haryana, and Rajastan. The Project is also one of the first private sector generators in India to apply supercritical technology, which are expected to be more environment friendly than conventional subcritical generating units.
